Creative minds bond together to enhance bridal show experience
Portland, OR December 19 2003--The Bridal Loft, a bridal image design and planning collective, announces that its 2nd annual bridal seminar, The Bridal Loft Brunch, will take place on Sunday, February 29th at its sponsoring hotel, The Embassy Suites Downtown.
Inspired by makeup artist Katherine Sealy's harried show experience when she was a bride-to-be, The Bridal Loft Brunch resembles a pampered girl-fest along the lines of Crave and Wedding March on Madison rather than a traditional predator-prey, booth-and-aisle encounter. (Grooms are welcome, though, and there are no pajamas.) Participants indulge in a seated, Champagne brunch and visit mini-seminar stations helping them sort out the details of everything from headpieces to first-dance song selection. Tickets are limited to 150 to encourage the intimate, hands-on atmosphere.
Sealy recalls two years ago, when she attended the big, convention-center bridal shows in Portland and San Francisco, excited to get her wedding planning done and learn about what was available. Instead, she got sore feet, a heavy bag of brochures, and felt overwhelmed.
"I must have walked around for hours and I didn't feel like I really got to talk to anybody. I just collected brochures in a bag, and when I got home, I was too overwhelmed to look at any of them—they just went in the recycling." Fast forward to February 2003, by which time Sealy had developed her makeup artistry into a business called Event Cosmetics and joined The Bridal Loft. The other six professionals, who specialize in everything from crafting headpieces to event planning, all shared the same trade show experience, and were determined to change it for the better and actually focus on fun.
"We were amazed at the response. Brides were asking questions, really grilling the vendors on every topic, and vendors had a chance to show their expertise. We got a ton of great feedback, and when it was all over, we realized we'd sold out the tickets and we'd turned vendors away," says Andrea Hoyt, headpiece maker for The Bridal Loft.
